Paul Barton, ABC, helps connect the minds of organizational leaders with the hearts of their employees and customers. After a successful 20-year career at six major corporations, he earned a master’s degree, launched his own consulting firm, and authored a book entitled Maximizing Internal Communication: Strategies to Turn Heads, Win Hearts, Engage Employees and Get Results. Paul offers strategic guidance, hands-on support, custom workshops and personal coaching. He has carved out the public speaking and personal coaching part of his business and created Phoenix Public Speaking. In addition to his consulting practice, Paul teaches public speaking and business communication courses at Brown Mackie College and the Art Institute of Phoenix.
WHERE PAUL WORKED: Paul honed his craft working alongside some of the best corporate communicators in the business at fast-growing and highly successful companies including PetSmart, Arizona Public Service (APS), Phelps Dodge Corp. (now Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.), Avnet Inc., America West Airlines (now American Airlines) and Hawaiian Airlines. Before beginning his corporate career, Paul was an editor and project manager at World at Work, the premier membership association for compensation and employee benefits professionals. There he worked with senior HR executives at Fortune 500 companies and top talent from the nation’s leading HR consulting firms.
CLIENTS: Paul has provided consulting services to a wide variety of corporate, public sector, small business and non-profit clients including CBRE, Resolution Copper, Rio Tinto, the Hawaii Department of Education, School Webmasters, Clear Coast, Sierra for Arizona and Christ Community United Methodist Church.

Maribel Barton, Executive Assistant / Proofreader
Maribel Barton keeps the place running by handling much of our administrative work. In addition to a myriad of administrative tasks, she’s also our top proofreader. If you spot a mistake in our copy, it’s probably something we neglected to run by her.
WHERE MARIBEL WORKED: Maribel has extensive retail experience, having worked for such big-name brands as Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and the Kroger Company. She provides us with a unique frontline perspective of internal communications and employee engagement.
EDUCATION: Maribel received a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree from Leyte Normal University.
PERSONAL: When not working or taking care of her three children, Maribel enjoys hiking and singing. Having been born and raised in Tacloban City, Leyte, Philippines, Maribel is fluent in Tagalog and the Waray-Waray dialect. Maribel supports diabetes and autism causes, and is active in her church.

Rodney Platt provides expertise in writing, editing, analyzing, and relationship building that delivers proven results in helping an organization meet its business goals and accomplish its business objectives with the latest communication technology and strategies. He writes about healthcare, human resources, website content, general business, and numerous other topics.
WHERE RODNEY WORKED: Rodney began his communications career in the newspaper industry in Pennsylvania and Ohio before moving to Phoenix in 1980 as a reporter with The Phoenix Gazette. Ten years later, he transitioned into the private sector with the Arizona Food Marketing Alliance as communications manager. Rodney then went to WorldatWork, the premier association of compensation and employee benefits professionals, first as an editor, then as publications manager. He managed a team of four editors who published the award-winning monthly magazine workspan, the quarterly WorldatWork Journal, and an online newsletter. Rodney later took his expertise to TriWest Healthcare Alliance as a Senior Communications Specialist where he developed, wrote, edited, and published information for TriWest’s Provider Services department regarding the TRICARE military healthcare program. He also implemented and managed the department’s web content management system.
RECOGNITION: Rodney oversaw the enhancement, redesign and rebranding efforts of WorldatWork’s magazine and journal in support of the association’s reorganization efforts in rebranding itself in the marketplace. Both publications received several national awards for excellence in content and design. At TriWest, Rodney received numerous internal awards for such efforts as developing an extensive review process that resulted in publishing information faster than in previous years and creating various communications for the company’s Health Care Services Department to increase provider online submission of referrals/authorizations.
EDUCATION: Rodney has an associate’s degree in Business Administration from the former New Castle Business College. He also has completed several journalism courses at Pennsylvania State University.
PERSONAL: Along with spending time with his wife Trisha and their cat Precious, Rodney enjoys playing golf, travel, Hawaiian music, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
